Welcome to the VRS!

We are the Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Sieg, or VRS for short.
Here you can find important information about us in plain language.

The VRS and its bodies

Cities and districts work together in the VRS.

They send representatives to an assembly.

This assembly is called the Association Assembly.

The VRS GmbH

VRS GmbH does the work.

VRS GmbH does everything for the transport association.

The tasks of VRS GmbH are set out in the contract.

VRS GmbH is a separate company.

It has its own employees.

It has its own things.

The VRS has four parts.

These parts are called organs. These are

  • the shareholders' meeting. It makes important decisions
  • the Supervisory Board. It also makes important decisions
  • the management. It also makes decisions
  • the advisory board. The Advisory Board helps VRS GmbH. It has a long name. The name is: Advisory Board for Transport Companies and Other Important Bodies.

These four groups make decisions. They decide what VRS GmbH does.

What do transport companies do?

The transport companies take care of buses and trains.

They operate according to a timetable.

They sell travel cards (tickets).

Which means of transport can I use with a VRS ticket?

With VRS tickets you can travel by bus, subway and streetcar.
You can also travel by S-Bahn and regional train.

Local transport vehicles have a VRS logo.

Where can I buy VRS tickets?

You can buy all VRS tickets from the transport companies in the VRS area.

At ticket machines at stops.
Or in vehicles.
Or at advance booking offices.

In addition to the customer centers, many kiosks and lottery sales points also sell VRS tickets.
These sales points often have a VRS logo at the entrance.

There are prices in the Rhine-Sieg Transport Association.

The prices are for buses and trains.

There are simple prices in the transport network.

Are you traveling in a city?

Then you pay one price.

Prices in neighboring cities

Are you traveling to a neighboring city?

Then you pay more.

Are you traveling through many cities?

Then you pay even more.

How much does a ticket cost?

You can see the price of your journey online.

Go to the VRS website.

Enter your start and destination.

You will then see the connections.

You can also see which ticket you need.

Or you can use the VRS ticket advisor.

It will show you the cheapest tickets.

What prices do children pay?

Children up to the age of 5 travel free by bus and train.
Children aged 6 to 14 pay less for tickets.

There are many inexpensive tickets.
They are available for children and schoolchildren.
They are also available for trainees and students.

Are dogs allowed on the VRS free of charge?

The following applies to the carriage of dogs: The safety of the service must be guaranteed.
Other passengers must not be disturbed.
Dogs must be kept on a short lead.
Dogs may not sit on seats.

Dogs are not allowed to travel in on-demand transport vehicles (e.g. AST - Anruf-Sammel-Taxi).
Taxis usually travel there.
There is no room for dogs in cabs.
Guide dogs for the blind are always allowed to travel.

Can you take a bicycle on buses and trains?

Yes, but there must be enough space in the vehicle.

On the bus, bicycles may only be parked in the space for baby carriages.
On trains and streetcars, bicycles may only be parked in marked areas.
If the bicycle spaces are full, no other bicycles can travel.

Passengers with baby carriages have priority over cyclists.
Wheelchair users also have priority.

You need an extra ticket for bicycles.
The ticket has a bicycle symbol.
You buy it from the ticket machine.

Folding bikes are free of charge.
They must be folded up.

Can I take my e-scooter with me?

Each transport company in the VRS decides for itself.

Passengers can take bicycles, pedelecs and e-bikes with them.
Electric wheelchairs and four-wheeled electric scooters are also permitted.

You can get timetable information by telephone on0 800 6 50 40 30(free of charge from all German networks).
You can also call the free "talking timetable" on0800 350 40 30to use it.

What can I do if my bus or train doesn't come?

The transport companies want to keep to the timetable.
They will get you safely to your destination.

Is your means of transport more than 20 minutes late?
Is there no alternative bus or train?
Then use the mobility guarantee in NRW.

You can take a cab or a long-distance train.
This costs extra money.
The transport company will reimburse part of the cost.

You have to fill in a reimbursement form.
Send it to the transport company with supporting documents and receipts.
You will get your money back in 2 to 3 weeks.

You cannot use the mobility guarantee in the event of a strike.
You cannot use the mobility guarantee in the event of bad weather.
You cannot use the mobility guarantee in the event of natural disasters.
You cannot use the mobility guarantee in the event of bomb threats.

Mobility guarantee

Traveling without a ticket is not good!

If you don't have a ticket, you have to pay 60 euros.
You can also get into trouble with the law.

If you have a valid ticket but can't show it, you can show the ticket later.
This costs 7 euros.
You have 14 days.
You have to show the ticket to the transport company.
