Social commitment

For children, families and nature.

Mitarbeiter*innen der VRS GmbH und von go.Rheinland engagieren sich im Rahmen der Kooperation mit Querwaldein e.V.

A heart for children and families

Children from special schools usually find it more difficult to gain access to nature. Under the motto "There's nature in it - with VRS and Querwaldein e.V. into the urban green", pupils from several schools in Cologne and Bonn have had the opportunity to discover and explore nature in the surrounding area in recent years. The offer has been so well received by the schools that we have decided to continue the program. As the schools change over time, a large number of pupils can have completely new experiences: Experiencing with all their senses, getting in tune with the plants and animals, experiencing the community and the movement strengthen not least the personal development of the children.

VRS employees working for a good cause

Some VRS and go.Rheinland employees have already set out three times to support the common good of society as part of a Social Day. With our partner Querwaldein, they have always gone out into nature.

On the first Social Day, the garden of the organic educational landscape in Cologne-Vingst was spruced up. Armed with spades, jigsaws and hedge trimmers, we headed out into the countryside. On the site, which is used by Querwaldein e.V. for environmental education events, blackberry hedges were cut back, beds were dug up and kits for insect hotels were built.

The second Social Day took place in a wooded area in Cologne-Dünnwald. There, under the guidance of a forester, the browsing protection against rabbits and deer was removed from young but already sufficiently strong and tall trees. The colleagues also collected a lot of garbage.

In the third edition, the garden of the Kolkrabenweg special school for mental development in Cologne was tackled. Not only were huge amounts of weeds removed and willow tipis repaired, but firewood was also chopped for the pizza oven, a composter was built and a bed for wheelchair users was sanded and repainted. Once again, the positive side effect of the social commitment was evident: there was a lively exchange between colleagues from the different departments and areas, so that we were able to get to know each other in a completely different way.
