Barrier-free travel

Free travel: Severely disabled passengers entitled to free travel can use all buses and trains in the VRS network free of charge if they hold a severely disabled person's pass plus a valid token. (Available from your social security office!).

Guaranteed seat: There are specially marked disabled seats in the buses and trains near the entrances and exits. There are also marked spaces for wheelchair users in the entrance areas.

Accessible entry and exit: Many buses can be lowered during stops using tilting technology. Alternatively, a ramp allows for accessible entry and exit. Depending on the type of vehicle, press the button with the wheelchair (pram) symbol so the bus driver can fold out the ramp for boarding. The folding ramp on low-floor buses can also be operated by accompanying people or other passengers.

Allow plenty of time: Get a VRS ticket in good time, e.g. as a HandyTicket using the VRS app or from the many VRS transport companies' advance booking offices.

Signal for assistance: Signal the bus driver by hand as they approach the bus stop that you need assistance getting on.

Get on and off safely with a wheelchair: Position yourself clearly visible to the train/bus driver at the stop and keep a safe distance of one metre from the kerb or road. To get onto the bus safely, align the wheelchair's wheels with the side ramp markings. Press the signal button with the wheelchair symbol in good time, i.e. immediately after the stop announcement, so that the driver recognises your stop request.
